About Coro Forte
As the premier men's chamber ensemble at James River High School, Coro Forte provides a rigorous environment where students master healthy vocal techniques and collaborative performance skills. The curriculum explores a diverse repertoire spanning multiple genres and languages, featuring both accompanied and a cappella works. Beyond vocal performance, members cultivate advanced music literacy through intensive sight-reading, ear training, and interval studies.
Membership in this elite group is reserved for the most dedicated vocalists, with selection made at the director's discretion for qualifying students in grades 9 through 12. Because the ensemble upholds the standards of a high-caliber musical organization, all performances—including pep rallies, concerts, and formal competitions—are mandatory and comprise a significant portion of the course grade. Participants are required to wear specialized performance attire, which is conveniently purchased through the school at the start of the academic year.
By joining Coro Forte, students take on the vital responsibility of maintaining James River’s status as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in the performing arts. Those interested in pursuing this standard of excellence should contact Ms. Hazelwood to discuss the audition and selection process.
